Thank you for coming to our learning conferences! It was wonderful to see you and share the growth in you child's learning. I'm very proud of all the grade 2's in my class and I hope you share with them their successes!

This week in our learning:

Math: We are working with cuisenaire rods to develop a better sense of the relationship between numbers. We are working on puzzles and challenges, as well as practicing addition and subtraction. A good resource for using online cuisenaire is https://www.mathplayground.com/mathbars.html

Language Arts: We are co-writing longer stories, and beginning to work on our own advanced stories. This week we worked on beginnings that start with dialogue. Using quotation marks is tricky, but all students were able to use a character to speak and begin their story. Our next step is to make sure our characters try to solve the story's problem. I am looking for their story to have events that fail (or don't work) to solve the problem before the characters find a solution. Here is an example of what we wrote together:

Social Studies: We are in Iqaluit! It's cold. We have looked at some Inuit artifacts and learned about traditional ways of knowing in the north. Here's some of the content we have worked on:

Science: We did not work on our boats this week, because of our close attention to the Inuit artifacts. We'll continue learning about floating and boats next week!

Have a wonderful weekend!
