Our second week!

Important Information:

Thursday September 19 is an early dismissal day. This is the first early dismissal day on a non-Friday, so it might be a little bit of a surprise.

That evening we have a parent open-house. Teachers will be in their classrooms and will have an group information presentation.

Please pick a session to attend in your student's classroom:
5:45-6:15pm Thursday Sept 19
6:45-7:00pm Thursday Sept 19

Friday September 20 is a Non-instructional day. There is no school for students.

This week has been a great week of learning:

Math: we are reviewing the terms, "more" "fewer" and "less" and have learned three strategies for figuring out "how many more". We have practiced subitizing numbers to 5 quickly by playing games, and we have practiced our printing numbers. We have some students with number reversals, especially 4, 5, 6, and 9, so we will keep working on this for the next week.

Social Studies: we have looked at our community on Google Earth, took a trip to the moon, learned our addresses and have created some visual journal work on maps. We have found our province on a map of Canada and learned parts of a map (compass rose, symbols/legend).

Science: we started learning about hot and cold this week. The weather cooperated, as some days were definitely warmer than others! We are making a hotter than/colder than game to play with our class.

Literacy: we have built some stamina in reading and partner reading. We have done some personal narrative writing, and had some free writing time. We are also learning everyone's names and practicing greeting each other by shaking hands gently and giving a friendly greeting.

Digital Literacy: We have gotten on both iPads and computers this week! The iPads have been helpful in finding our addresses and homes, and we have learned how to log-in to a school computer using our school ID and password, and have used D2L to begin to learn some basic coding. This is something you can do at home (when students have memorized their student ID!). Stay tuned and ask you student about this!

Library: we have library time on Tuesdays this year! Please read your books at home, then return them for exchange on Tuesdays. We will let you know later this month when we have home-reading program ready for you.

Thank you for sharing your student with me! It's been an exciting week of learning!
