Reminder: Our library exchange day is Tuesday! Students are welcome to bring their books back Monday if that is easier, as we can hold the books until our library time.

This seemed to be a busy week, with Halloween and field trip activities keeping us very occupied! Here's what we worked on in our learning this week:

Literacy: We have a new reading strategy this week related to reading comprehension: Use what you know to predict. We continue work on transition words to link our sentences together. We also rewrote the ending of the read-aloud, "The Stubborn Pumpkin" and worked on our creative writing. Finally, we practiced listening to an auditory story when Mr Belcher came to visit us, and gifted us the story of "The Boy and the Bird". We will be working further with this story next week.

Social Studies: We have finished working on our exploration of the Glenbow artifacts that we observed last week. We have also read and worked on the Canadian holiday of Halloween.

Science: A short experiment on Hot and Cold this week: cooking potatoes! We observed uncooked baby potatoes and made predictions about what would happen when we heated them. in the slow cooker. Then we observed them again, and got a chance to taste them (both cooked and raw).

Math: We are working on patterns! We are listening to, creating, drawing, assembling and speaking patterns. We have worked on the math vocabulary, "core" (the smallest repeating section of a pattern) and "term" (the individual components of the pattern). We continue to skip count, forwards and backwards, with a focus on practicing 2's.

I have more pictures of Heritage Park (thank you parent volunteers!) so please check back later!

Have a great weekend! Ms Hatch
