Reminder: There is no school on Monday November 11.

This week in our learning:

We welcomed Ms Janice Swan to our classroom as she begins her student teaching with us this term. She'll be here until nearly Christmas, and will begin teaching our next science unit (Liquids).

Language Arts: We continue to work on the fluency strategy, Make your voice match the text. This encourages students to attend to punctuation (periods, exclamation and question marks, commas, ellipses); to use a "teacher voice"; and to scoop their words in phrases. Many students are doing this when working with a teacher, but need some reminders when they read independently. In writing, we are working on linking our sentences using traffic light words. This enhancement to our writing means the reader can gain a better understanding of their written text.

Math: We are measuring! Using centimeter blocks, we are measuring and comparing length, width, and perimeter, and we are using these results to compare objects.

Social Studies: We are planning a trip to Saskatoon! We have talked about what we already know about this prairie community, and are learning a song to sing. Ask your student about it! Next week we are hoping our "passports" come in so we can pretend travel to this new place.

Science: We are studying liquids with Ms Swan, and our first activity was a flood of excellent ideas and observations about water. We are learning skills on how to make careful observations of liquids using all our senses.

Art: We created poppy art in the style of Georgia O'Keeffe for our art project this week:
