Kindness Week

Reminder: No school on Friday!

This week was Kindness Week!

Our students became Super Secret Kindness Ninjas. Did you notice them showing kindness at home? We had a Super Secret Mission each day:
Monday: clean up, even when not asked!
Tuesday: Invite someone new or someone alone to play with you.
Wednesday: Give an authentic compliment.
Thursday: We delivered random notes to all the students in grade 2! We became Super Secret Kindness Ninjas in real life!

If you would like to know the trick to folding a plain t-shirt into a Ninja mask, as we did in class, here's a picture of how we did it:

We even got special rewards for our Super Secret Missions (as long as we weren't discovered!).

Here we are on our final day:

Language Arts: This week we are continuing to work on "Get your Characters Talking". We also examined in close detail the sounds all the vowels make. We got to investigate our names as we discovered short, long, round and "other" sounds of english vowels.

Math: We are investigating 2-d geometry. Ask me about lines: curved, straight, open and closed; and squares! Next up are rectangles and circles!

Science: We continue to work on the properties of liquids, including surface tension and absorbency. We designed and created umbrellas to show our understanding of what materials repel or absorb water.

Social Studies: We are getting closer to our trip to Saskatoon! We are carefully watching the weather and graphing it! We have also talked about what we need to pack and bring with us.
